Exciting opportunity for a hands on Tool & Die Manager to be part of a successful company that is growing and moving into new markets. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Tool & Die Manager will directly manage a team of 5-10 Tool and Die makers who engineer, design and build all types of dies, fixtures, gauges, special machinery and equipment to exact close tolerances.   
Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Schedule work to meet required dates.
  • Coordinate safety program within department.
  • Incorporate approved changes and improvements in existing tools and dies,
  • Maintain and develop continuing systems that provide "job flow" through shop and make Tool Room self-directive with minimum supervision with the expectation of paid weekly overtime. 
  • Coordinate the flow of materials and supplies and develop new processes that increase Tool Room output.
  • Reviews work performance, assures efficiency of employees and proper utilization of machines
  • Set up and operate all forms of conventional machine tools (lathes, mills, surface grinders, etc.) for the purpose of machining complex tooling and fixturing components.
  • Manage a staff of 5 to 10 employees.
  • Able to repair all types of dies, fixtures, gauges, special machinery and equipment to close tolerances.
  • Rebuild existing tooling and run all tool room related equipment, sharpen and replace broken die sections, resurface and retime dies and make spare parts 
  • Trouble shoot die problems in presses and do developmental work to correct metal flow problems.
  • Assist in the design, modify, or make special tools according to drawing specifications or functional requirements, or as directed by the tooling designer.
  • Inspect and verify conformance of finished work to specifications, using visual acuity and precision measuring instruments.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and appropriate manner following good machining practices.
  • Facilitate in the training of employees from other job levels or classifications.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 5-8 years management experience and 5 to 10 years Tool Room experience preferred.
  • Ability to implement and utilize ISO 9001 Quality Management System procedures. 
  • Strong technical capability with specific background in progressive die design and build
  • Experience applying Continuous Improvement (CI) principles – tools and techniques preferred
