The role of Product Manager requires a candidate who is a well-rounded results oriented business person able to balance strategic thinking and short term execution, possesses strong analytical acumen, exhibits strong leadership skills and seeks accountability for the team and his / her success.  The role requires someone who is a strong communicator capable of interacting with all functions and is capable of leading cross functional teams in developing, implementing and meeting key product line priorities on time and at or below budget.
The role of Product Manager is responsible for the following:
  • Product line profitability
  • Product life-cycle management
    • New product introductions
    • Product line extensions / refresh
    • Product line rationalization
  • Pricing
  • Make versus buy sourcing decisions
  • Product cost management
  • Product value proposition development
  • Product line points of differentiation versus competition
  • All key product line financial metrics including (but not limited to):
    • Average selling price (ASP)
    • Gross margin $ and GM %
    • Product line annual revenue
  • Provide support to Segment Managers and Field teams in terms of product training
  • Provide support to product designers / developers in establishing:
    • Product cost targets
    • Design for manufacturability criteria
    • Targeted product specifications
  • Annual product line strategic plan
  • Annual product line operating plan
  • Product line forecasting
  • Understanding industry and competitive trends
  • Interact and contribute to the product management team
  • Interact and contribute to the global product management team
The ideal candidate for the Product Manager would have the following criteria and behaviors:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing / Business or Finance; MBA preferred
  • 10-15+ years’ experience in a multi-national company with increasing responsibility across multiple functions including commercial roles
  • Strategic thinker able to translate strategy into business objectives with clear accountability and measures success through the customers' eyes
  • Is results oriented; takes responsibility for decisions, actions and results; sets stretch goals and achieves them
  • Demonstrates flexibility / agility by quickly adapting to changing business circumstances and dynamic situations
  • Demonstrates a bias for action by being decisive; is able to make decisions with speed and accuracy with the best available information while seeking simple solutions to complex problems
  • Communicates in an open, candid and consistent manner.  Breaks down barriers and develops relationships across teams, functions and layers.
  • Strives for personal growth by seeking feedback; continuously learns and develops self; learns as much from failures as successes.
  • Travel 25-30% of time
