We have an opportunity for an experienced Director of Facilities who will be responsible for leading and developing a team that consistently provides a high level of facilities stewardship, customer service and communications for a well-established nonprofit organization with multiple buildings, grounds and properties. Reporting to the V.P Administration, the Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the physical plant services unit in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Physical plant services consist of building maintenance; new construction and renovations; grounds; housekeeping; other property, plant and equipment; and administration of related services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Directs a staff consisting of maintenance personnel; groundskeepers; housekeeping; and other personnel in the fulfillment of project assignments, within budget, with quality and on schedule.
Provide overall strategic direction and leadership, including interviewing, selection, training, motivating, performance evaluations, wage and salary administration, developing goals and developing procedures to ensure department goals are being met.
Coordinate and approve the selection of sub-contractors, including architects and engineers performing work on existing facilities and new construction.
Continually assess and monitor physical plant and equipment performance, condition, and reliability, including plumbing, mechanical and electrical equipment, to ensure efficient operation.
Provides fiscal management for unit operations to ensure proper utilization of financial resources. This includes participation in the approval process for new buildings, facilities and renovations. Develop annual and long-term plans that identify future needs.
This position will require an individual who is a self-starter and very self-directed. This is a high visibility position and interacts with numerous individuals throughout the organization so excellent communications skills are imperative. Position requirements include:
BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Business Management preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of related experience and with at least 5 years of leadership experience in a complex organizational environment. Experience with a nonprofit is highly desirable.
Strong analytical skills needed in financial matters and operations to provide guidance in management decisions.
Must also have computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent and professional written and oral communications. Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate key information in an open, honest and respectful manner.
A very broad spectrum of experience with various organization structures will be very helpful in this position.
