A growing and expanding global manufacturer based in Cleveland, Ohio is looking for a licensed customs broker that can serve as the Customs compliance matter expert providing support related to Import, Export and Foreign Trade Zones. The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible to ensure compliance is met with applicable laws, regulations and best practices. The ideal candidate will be able to partner with Customs Brokers, consultants, FTZ Grantees and other providers to monitor, audit, report and improve existing trade compliance programs. Additionally, this position oversees the self-filling of Customs entries, the administration of FTZ's and southern border operations that include a Maquiladora in Mexico. Will directly manage two Customs Analysts. 

  • Maintain overall customs compliance procedures to ensure operations are in conformity with various regulations.
  • Maintain standardization of compliance programs including writing SOP's and conducting in house training. 
  • Oversee internal audits, Free Trade Agreements, HTS classification, FTZ administration, in house brokerage program and post entry work. 
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Export license determinations. 
  • Interface with Brokers, Forwarders, legal teams and all departments. 
  • Participate in continuing education and in turn, assist in training internal departments in areas related to compliance with CBP and other government regulations that may affect operations.
  • Ensure Reasonable Care standard is met and pass any customs audit.
  • Extensive knowledge of import regulations including CTPAT, FTA, ISF and FTZ.
  • Understanding of Partner Governmntal Agency regulations including NHTSA, EPA and APHIS.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule / commodity classification process & INCOTERMS.
  • Experience managing corporate trade compliance program. 
  • Experience working with CBP.
  • Experience overseeing Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders. 
  • Leadership, presentation and oral & written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand complex import/export rule and regulations and apply them to business process and operations. 
  • FTZ operation experience preferred. 
  • Strong computer skill in Microsoft Office, Integration Point (FTZ), NetCHB (ABI) and INFOR (ERP) preferred. 
  • 8 to 12 years experience in similar role. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field. 
  • Customs Brokers License.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time domestically to manufacturing/distribution operations.
